Our Wedding Inspiration

This Friday, April 27th marks the one year countdown until the big "I Do." I truly could not be any more excited...as if you couldn't tell by starting a one year count down. I truly cannot wait for my best friend to become my husband! Apologies for the "cheese factor."  Austin and I planned for a long engagement knowing that we would be making the move to Washington, DC. Now that we are here, and settled, its time to get to planning.

Our wedding will take place in my hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. The "feel" I am aiming for with our big day is natural, relaxed yet still possessing some traditional wedding elements as well.

Here are some photos that have inspired my color selection for our big day.

Succulent Aisle Decor

Simple Cake

Rustic Cake Display

Bridesmaids Attire

Khaki Suit for the groom..

Khaki and White Seersucker Bow Tie

Succulent Boutonniere

Fun Invites
Simple Bouquet of Peonies

And of course Bailey has to be a part of the action!

Now that wedding planning is in full swing in this house, all of you brides to be out there...what do you do to help maintain your sanity?

April Showers...

It's a rainy day here in Washington. The first rainy day in awhile so of course I was excited to wear my Hunter boots. When I purchased them, I took the safe route and bought black. Now, seeing all of the fun colors available it really makes me want to pick up a fun color.
Aqua Hunter Rain Boots

Salmon Hunter Boots

Milly Trench
I adore the vintage style of this Bella umbrella. And of course the stripes are always a hit in my book.

gaga for lulu

I hopped on the lululemon train somewhat recently and have to say I have never looked back. When I first learned about it, I thought "Wow, thats really expensive workout gear." Wrong. I am now a firm believer you get what you pay for and Lulu definitely delivers. I recently brought the fiance home his first piece, a workout shirt, and he is now a believer. Plus, the shop up the street offers free yoga classes on Saturdays and Sundays. Just that in itself justifies the cost of the clothing. Not to mention the fit. It. Is. Awesome. The tops are long, the pants are stretchy and nothing ever loses its shape. Even if you aren't big into yoga, because believe me I am no guru, it is the perfect weekend throw on gear. Seriously.

I have most recently added these items to my closet which I cannot get enough of. If you have yet to buy your first piece, I highly recommend it.

Happy Shopping!

Weekend Recap

Is it Monday already?! How does that happen? This past weekend was a lot of fun filled with special events!

Friday evening we kicked off our weekend by going to our very first Washington Nationals game. They played the Cinncinati Reds and won in the 13th inning. In my opinion, baseball can sometimes be like watching grass grow, but with a cold beer and tons of people watching to do, I was satisfied.

We also met a couple past presidents... ;-)

Saturday, I won the battle and convinced Austin to come along with me to some outlets about 30 minutes outside of DC. And let me tell you, that took some convincing.  Meanwhile, we scored some serious deals.  Austin was able to get an $800 Jos A Bank suit for $80 (ridiculous right?!) And I thoroughly robbed J Crew, Kate Spade and Vineyard Vines blind (not really of course). All in all, it was a successful trip,  I will definitely be making more trips out there.

Saturday was also the 3rd birthday of my sweet Golden, Bailey. She believes is s family member in this house, and we made sure she knew it was her special day. Austin even cooked her very own filet! Spoiled.

Sunday was wrapped up with a trip to the park and some cold drinks with good friends.

How was your weekend?

Katie

Favorite Fridays

Friday's just put me in a happy mood. I wake up first thing in the morning and just know it will be a good day. Do Friday's make you feel that way? I'm loving some items this Friday...Some I may or may not have indulged in..
Kate Spade Gold Striped iPhone Case

I needed this case in more reasons than one. My previous iPhone case was a disaster and had seen its final day. I made a trip to the Kate Spade store in Georgetown today and this little gem was included in their Friends & Family sale. Who could say no?

I should be receiving my iPad 3 in the mail anyday now and these new cases that will be released on Sunday are adorable. I am leaning towards the seafoam. Which one is your favorite?

I'm obsessed with weekend clothes. This Madewell shirt is the perfect weekend "uniform" as I call it. I live in Austin's oversized oxford's and leggings, and this top is a great excuse to have one of my very own. It is perfect to transition into summer with white shorts.

I can't get enough of this Tory Burch cover-up. We are going to Bald Head Island for four days for a wedding in May and it would the perfect addition to my getaway wardrobe.

I'm also super excited for my first major league baseball game tonight. The Washington Nationals had their season opener last night to kick off the year. I am very excited to start off the weekend with a good ice cold beer and a little baseball.

What are you up to this weekend?

Katie

Easter Weekend

How was your Easter? Ours was filled with a lot of relaxation and way too much Easter Candy. It was the first Easter I have spent away from my family, but it was nice to start a new tradition with Austin in DC. We kicked off the long weekend doing a few things around the house and then had a few couples over Friday night for some delicious patio grilling.

I began working on our new bar cart on Friday. I'm so excited to give it some good use. Thank you Megan for the tip on this adorable piece! It is a work in progress :)

Easter Sunday was filled with a delicious brunch in Dupont Circle at an adorable spot called Firefly. It felt like we were inside a huge treehouse with a tree trunk going up the middle of the restaurant and adorable lanterns throughout. We enjoyed probably a few too many mimosas, but it was a lot of fun.

The Easter Bunny came for Austin and Bailey (of course) and left a basket filled with goodies.

Bailey especially loved her treat.

Woke up to flowers from Mr Bunny!

So this was the funniest thing! I'm not a huge cat person, but on Easter morning, we woke up to an "Easter Cat" at our door. She was the sweetest little cat, and I'm not even a huge cat person. Sadly, Bailey was more terrified of the cat than anything. As you can tell...

Before brunch at Firefly!

Did you all have a nice Easter?

Katie

Do You Have a Minute?

Hi Sweet Followers! So, about a month ago after a bridal appointment at "Hitched" salon in DC, I entered a contest they released to their email subscribers. On a whim, I said "what the heck" and entered. To my MUCH surprise, I was notified via email last week that I was a top 6 finalist to win a custom made wedding gown. (!!!) I was completely shocked and flattered that Austin and my story made it past the hundreds of other applicants.

So now, I turn to you guys. Public voting opened this morning for everyone to vote on their favorite couple.  Voting is open until April 30th and you can vote as many times as you'd like (as long as you used diferent email addresses) I would LOVE for each of you to click the link below to vote for me. The winner is announced May 18th at a special party the salon is hosting where I will be able to meet the designer himself, Jorge Manuel.

Even if Austin and I don't come out on top (there are some great other contestants as well) it is exciting to have made it this far! And I won a free custom made veil! Can't complain there. But, if you have a minute I'd love your vote!

Who knew the designer was such a cutie?!

For The Love of Pastels

With Easter weekend upon us (one of my favorite holidays) I will be sure to pull out almost every pastel item of clothing that I own. Easter will be a little different for Austin and I this year now that we are living in DC. This will be my first Easter away from my family, but I am hoping we can make some fun traditions while we are up here. I plan on putting the final touches on Austin (and Bailey’s) Easter basket today, but with tourism in full force, Georgetown shopping is ANYTHING but pleasant.
I am especially drawn to mint this Spring and definitely wouldnt mind any of these pieces in my basket from Mr Bunny...
ASOS
Piazza Sempione
Peppermint Pattie Dress
Essie Mint Candy Apple
Oliphant

Along with Easter comes copious amounts of sweet treats and LOTS of Easter candy in our house. How adorable and festive are these desserts? Not to mention they look sinfully good...
Mint Chocolate Fudge Pie...and they say its only 150 calories!?

Pastel Peppermint Patties
I hope you have a fabulous Easter!
