new things

We've been hunkered down all weekend with Winter weather, which has given me plenty of time on my hands to get some much needed organizing and arranging done around here. Nothing like a good ice storm to really get you in the spirit for your trip to Mexico later this week (Thanks Jonas!)..I digress.

I've added a few new pieces to our home that has really gotten me in the spirit for Spring and Summer. When describing my home style, I like to blend textures and a variety of new and antiqued pieces. If I had to name it, I would say something along the lines of "collected coastal" would best describe me. A bit boho, a bit traditional, and there's bound to be a palm in every room.

It's true I typically choose books based on their covers...but recently, I've loved whats beneath the cover much more than the cover themselves. I love the raw look of both my Kinfolk Table and Island Hotel Stories books with their neutral linen look.

I scored this basket for a whopping $10 at the Furbish Flea and love how it holds all of our throws. This Anthropologie throw has been in heavy rotation with the chilly temps and I'm always a sucker for anything with pom-poms.

I got these adorable napkins as a birthday gift from a sweet friend and they are one of my favorite pieces on our bar. Golden retrievers and wine, whats not to love?

..And just because she's cute.

Follow along for more home adventures here.

Happy Sunday!

on my radar

  • Labratory Perfume -- I first came across this during an Anthro shopping trip and instantly fell in love with the scent "Gorse". It is so clean and refreshing but isn't completely gone by 11am. I am also a sucker for the perfect packaging.
  • Making a Murderer -- We just finished. Guys. So many feels. We got through all 10 episodes over the span of likeee..72 hours. Show-hole is real.
  • Target Marble Candle Holders -- When is Target not on point?! But lately, its like..extra good. These candle holders are incredible quality for the price. I love the clean lines.
  • The Horse Watch -- My mom gave me this watch for Christmas and I. LOVE. it. Seriously, its so versatile! Winter, Summer, Dressy, Casual, its everything. And I love it.
  • Lasagna Soup Recipe -- During the winter months I use my Le Creuset Dutch Oven at least 3x a week. I absolutely LOVE one pot recipes. Hello, easy clean up. This recipe is by far a favorite to date. Its so incredibly easy, lasts for days and tastes incredible!
  • African juju hat -- They are everywhere, trendy I know. But I LOVE them. I really want this African Juju above our bed, but wonder how the "dusting" aspect goes down. Anyone bought one and noticed any serious dust collection? #randomthoughts

miscellaneous 2016 thoughts

I don't know about you but I'm still getting used to dating things with 2016. I literally, kid you not, just typed 2015 instead of 2016. I digress. Perhaps it is just me, but I feel like each new year brings so much pressure! Each January, everyone's all, "I'm definitely working out more and "social media-ing" less" and so on and so forth. For me, this year, I'm focusing on not pressuring myself to be the absolute best at anything, but just being a "better" version of myself.

My goals for this year are to not adopt any crazy lifestyle changes or tell myself no carbs or no online shopping. Because, lets be real. But, be a better wife, a better friend, a better daughter, a better colleague and maybe even better at keeping up the ole' blog. Be more in the moment and less constant planning. I'm guilty of always planning the next step and never feel like I'm thoroughly enjoying just being there. I want to find myself fully wrapped into each moment with family and friends and not daydreaming of what I need to do next or what may have popped into my work email. Nope. Time to make a change!

2015 was such a whirlwind and they say as you get older each year goes even faster. I absolutely believe it. Its my goal to make the days (especially ones spent at home with my husband and family) feel longer and more enjoyed. Not constantly rushing to and from events with the ever running to do list.  That is my 2016 (I legit just typed 2015 again) goal that I hope to carry out this year and beyond.

Here's to being "present"

new year. new skincare.

I thought I would kick off the first full week of the year with new favorites of mine. To continue this trend, I wanted to share a few of my favorite skin care products that I use religiously, if not every day for most.

Recently, I decided to make the switch to all paraben free products. My mom convinced me as she has been paraben free for quite some time. After reading many articles on the benefits of going paraben free, and the crazy amounts of chemicals that go into skincare products and makeup I knew I needed to make a change. However, with the change meant saying "farewell" to some of my most loved long-time used products.

Anyway, I'm getting off on a tangent. Here's what I've been using recently and have loved the results! Not to mention, they are much better for you!
FAB Facial Cleanser
I am working on my third tube of this stuff and swear by it for evening skin tone and amazing at makeup removal!
Resurfacing Mask - I swear by this weekly!
This stuff is slightly pricey as far as face masks go, but its worth every cent! I had the same jar for over a year and used it weekly! Your skin will thank you!
Arcona Toning Pads

An absolute must for travel!
VaniCream Body Moisturizer

You seriously cannot beat the price for the amount with this stuff. A friend recommended it to me and ever since using, my skin has been so incredibly soft! It absorbs quickly and doesn't leave that greasy feeling.

One of the hardest parts for me was finding makeup that had good coverage but also was sans parabens. Enter Tarte Amazonian Clay. Ya'll I swear by this stuff! It has a light whipped texture, doesn't cake on AND is good for you?! Sold.

What Paraben free products can you not live without?

new year. new candles.

It deeply pained me having to retire my beloved Nest "Holiday" candle. It is such a favorite of mine and one I would probably and try burn year round if I could get away with it. With a new year comes new scents that I love to fill our home with. Anyone who knows me, knows I keep a serious candle stash on hand at all times. Here's a few favorites in our house. Feel free to click through each caption to get one of your own! You (and your house) won't regret it ;-)

Looking for the perfect bootie?

I bought these booties recently and literally have hardly taken them off since. I first bought them before they went on sale in black. I am absolutely loving the brown below, but only black is left! The best part?  They are comfortable AND an extra 60% off right now.

Hurry, the sale ends tomorrow! Shop HERE

life lately

So it's been awhile! I blame the craziness of the holidays. I can't believe they are over and reality resumes tomorrow. Since we touched base last, we've been quite busy. Between decorating for the holidays, hosting a Christmas party, seeing family and trying to find some down time in between.

With the holidays over I always get into a little slump. Austin took this into account and surprised me with a trip to Mexico at the end of the month which I cannot wait for. A week of sunshine and warmth is just what I need!

Now, time to hit the gym after all those Christmas cookies :-/

Happy 2016!!
